Alicia’s Klassic Kool Shoppe and Colour Code
Gallery
Friends that have shared a print studio for over a decade, Alicia’s Klassic Kool Shoppe and Colour Code have collaborated on printing, publishing, art book fairs and exhibitions. This showcase brings together their respective print and publishing practices, offering a focused look into a world of print and publications spanning 10+ years.
Selected from this body of work are twelve screenprints, a giant book page (pulled out of a larger than life real book) and a selection of Alicia's art books and zines.
Additionally, accompanying the exhibition is a library space, featuring Alicia’s personal collection of zines and art books. While exhibiting at art book fairs both local and internationally over the years, she traded and collected small press, printed matter and zines. Many of the special small press books were produced in limited quantities from all over the world. Please have a seat and take a look!
Colour Code has included its extensive catalog of printed matter, with risograph and screenprinted posters and publications in this exhibition.

Alicia’s Klassic Kool Shoppe is a publishing imprint of self-published work as well as collaborations with poets, musicians and other artists. Alicia’s focus is on analog ways of making, physically collaging xeroxed material culled from books found in thrift stores and reference libraries into new compositions. Using these collages she screenprints posters, prints, wallpaper, installations, books, textiles and other multiples. Much of her work serves as speculative windows to explore possible worlds; influenced by the natural world, dreams, myth, ancient history and sci fi. Compositions are inhabited by vegetation, familiar and unfamiliar beings, abandoned architecture and shifting perspectives, suggesting possibilities found in the unwritten future.
Established in 2011, Colour Code is an independent print studio and publishing platform based in Toronto, run by Jenny Gitman and Jesjit Gill. They specialize in Risograph and screenprinting services, and publish and distribute small-run artist books, comics, posters and other printed matter. Colour Code’s work is characterized by their innovative and pioneering use of the Risograph, a machine that bridges the gap between traditional screen printing and offset printing. Their projects often include collaborations with local and international artists to produce printed works that explore the limits achievable with Risograph, pushing the boundaries of colour reproduction in graphic art or photography, using equipment which was never intended for art reproduction.
