The theme or concept of this exhibit is to illustrate a novel approach to abstract imagery on canvas. My techniques were influenced by 19th century impressionism, which captured fleeting moments and the effects of light and colour in paint. Post-impressionism later emerged as artists explored different styles. A well-known example of Post-impressionism is George Seurat’s pointillist paintings, a systematic approach involving applying tiny dots of pure contrasting colours side-by-side to create intense and vibrant effects when viewed at a distance.

In my paintings I have created imagery that incorporates the digital phenomenon of pixelation. The advent of digital photography introduced the viewer to images composed of millions of pixels enhancing an image’s clarity and detail. An interesting phenomena occurs when the image is enlarged and the clarity of the image begins to distort due to the visible appearance of individual pixels, the tiny squares that make up digital images. When the image is enlarged beyond its original resolution it becomes blurry and jagged. I have made deliberate creative choices working from these images to add texture, pattern, and an abstract quality. I worked on canvas with acrylic paint and other mixed media including gesso and modelling paste.
