Double Delight

Artist

Janet Hinkle & Laura Kay Keeling

Double Delight, a new collaborative exhibition, between artists Janet Hinkle and Laura Kay Keeling draws inspiration from and incorporates natural imagery sourced and captured in the Niagara region. Displaying works across multiple modalities Hinkle and Keeling explore connections to the natural world, as well as communities, where we find ourselves, the anthropocene, climate change, political atmosphere, and financial climate. Drawing from local ecologies like the ones at the Port Dalhousie East Pier, the Wetland Canals, and many other regional highlights, the artists represent the surrounding environment and communities while simultaneously combining found palettes and subject matter to create new, contemporary works.

Double Delight

Laura’s practice is rooted in a process-centered approach that integrates analog photography, video, digital collage, and installation. She is particularly interested in exploring moving images and video work, incorporating them into digital presentations as well as installations and exhibitions. Merging digital and found natural elements. Janet Hinkle’s multidisciplinary practice is rooted in both contemporary fine art and craft. With a fondness for mixing juxtaposing materials and a practice rooted in shared histories, she is driven to explore concepts involving identity. Pulling inspiration from both mid-century forms and futuristic design, her work manifests as installation, sculpture, gatherings, time-based media, and both human-food and human-flora interaction. With this new collaboration, they will explore concepts relating to steep ecotones and the beings that exist across these spaces.
