Aaron Kreuter, J.M. Frey, Chyana Marie Sage - Reading/Q+A
Phylum Press presents a night of readings and a Q+A from Aaron Kreuter, J.M. Frey and Chyana Marie Sage
Aaron Kreuter is the author of six books, including the poetry collection Shifting Baseline Syndrome, a 2022 finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award. His work has been shortlisted for two Vine Awards for Jewish Literature, a Raymond Souster Award, and a ReLit Award. Aaron's award-winning academic work explores contemporary Jewish fiction, Israel/Palestine, settler colonialism, and diaspora. His most recent book is the novel Lake Burntshore, which was included in The Toronto Star's list of "Eighteen Essential Summer Reads" and CBC Book's "Six Sizzling Books to Add to Your Summer Reading List." He lives in Toronto and teaches literature and creative writing at Trent University.
J.M. Frey is an author and lapsed academic. She writes queer speculative fiction and cozy romantic fantasy. Her debut novel TRIPTYCH was nominated for two Lambda Literary Awards and garnered a place among the Best Books of 2011 from Publishers Weekly, and her novel TIME AND TIDE was named one of The New York Times' Best Romances of the Year. Her life's ambition is to step foot on every continent - only three left! She lives in Toronto where she is surrounded by houseplants, because she is allergic to anything with fur. Like her main character in NINE-TENTHS, she is also allergic to chocolate. But not wine.
Chyana Marie Sage is a Cree and Métis memoirist, journalist, essayist, poet, model, screenwriter, and public speaker from amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton). Her debut essay "Soar" won first place in the Edna Staebler Essay Contest, and earned a Silver Medal at the National Magazine Awards. She holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Columbia University-where she was the first Indigenous graduate-and later taught as an adjunct professor. After living in New York City, she returned to Canada and now lives in Toronto, working as Storyteller and Content Writer for Indspire. Her work has appeared in HuffPost, The New Quarterly, Electric Lit, The Toronto Star, and Matriarch Movement. Her debut memoir, Soft as Bones (House of Anansi, May 2025), became an instant national bestseller.
