The Unpopular Archive is proud to present a vinyl release celebrating St. Catharines ON native Gord High (1971-2012) — an unheralded master of Canadian electronic music.
This limited edition set presents a focused selection of Gord’s 20 years in Canada’s underground music scene. An 80s kid raised on Bo Diddley, teen Gord moved quickly and fluidly from SST punk rock into the far corners of dub reggae - then took it all to art school. He was a prolific and gifted beatmaster, producer, DJ, radio transmitter tech, musical Flash game webmaster, visual artist, electric guitarist and raconteur.
Throughout the 90s and 00s, he developed his visionary, polyglot sound in a series of modest home studios, from cassette 4-track to Commodore Amiga to Audacity - and just once, unleashed in a pro studio (See disc two). For all Gord’s voracious stylistic borrowing, no one has sounded like this before or since.
Recorded in Toronto, Tokyo, Guelph and St. Catharines, this is Gord High’s first vinyl release ever - straight from his rockin’ home to yours - just a couple decades late.
Gord’s sister Lorraine High Randell will be onsite to document your memories of Gord for an upcoming podcast!
