Everything in Balance

Toronto-based artist Jon Sasaki will be making a collaborative hanging sculpture in St Catharines, Ontario. With your help.

Throughout the performance, as new objects arrive, they will be added to the suspended armature, incorporated carefully into its overall structure, with thought and care taken to avoid tipping and affecting its equilibrium, causing the sculpture to be in constant flux. Every new object necessitates a rebalancing of its overall assembly.

Everything in Balance strives to place everyone's “important things” in a state of harmonious coexistence.

Join Ontario Culture Days and Jon Sasaki at these events:

September 10, 12, and 17: Donate your object* to “Everything in Balance”, St. Catharines Farmers Market, St. Catharines. Or bring your object during installation at the NAC on September 18th.

*Please note that all donated items will not be returned.

Sept 18,  3 - 9pm: “Everything in Balance” Installation, Niagara Artists Centre, St. Catharines

Everything in Balance is made possible by Tourism Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Province of Ontario, the Tourism Partnership of Niagara and the Ontario Arts Council.

Jon Sasaki is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist who explores many concurrent streams of inquiry that regularly intertwine. His work often stages inefficiencies, absurd or impossible tasks as prompts for ad hoc problem solving. Jon’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout and beyond Canada, and he has presented durational, improvisational performances on many occasions over the past 15 years. He holds a BFA from Mount Allison University (Sackville, NB) and is represented by Clint Roenisch Gallery.

This program is part of the Ontario Culture Days 2026 Creatives in Residence series, and is curated by Dave Dyment.

Programmed by Ontario Culture Days and the City of St. Catharines
