2006 | STRUTT: Seventh Annual Wearable Art Show

The Seventh Annual Wearable Art Show
Saturday 4 November, doors at 8pm, runway at 9pm
At the Folk Arts Centre, 85 Church Street, downtown St. Catharines

Over fifty contemporary visual artists from Niagara and Southern Ontario create one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art from the outrageous to the splendorous,
all modelled by performers from the Suitcase In Point theatre troupe.

“Anyone who’s seen one of these shows can tell you it’s about as much fun as you can have in an evening. The artists and the performers get right into it--and the pretensions of fashion and contemporary art are quickly cleared out of the way for a great party.”

- NAC director Stephen Remus

STRUTT is an annual benefit fundraiser for the Niagara Artists’ Centre (NAC), a charitably registered non-profit artist-run centre devoted to presenting and supporting the production of outstanding contemporary visual art. Suitcase In Point is a group of dynamic performers, artists, actors, musicians and writers best known for their whacky multi-disciplinary Cabarets. STRUTT is NAC’s largest fundraiser and many hundreds of volunteer hours go into realizing it every year. Cash prizes of $250 will be awarded in three categories: Erotika, awarded to the design that best communicates libidinousness in an original manner; Chaotika, awarded to the most idiosyncratic, original, and deviant attire that makes its way down the runway and Testotika, the best wearable art designed for a man. This year’s event also features a licensed post-runway dance party: Disctopia! With DJ MACHINE and food provided by downtown restaurants!

Tickets are on sale at NAC and Out of the Past Vintage Clothes in downtown St. Catharines and vary in price:

$40 Curator’s Row: a reserved first-row runway seat
$25 General Admission
$15 Senior/Student Admission with ID
$250 Curator’s Tables Best seats in the house, seats four, at the end of the runway, adjacent the judges’ table with wait service.

NAC works to contribute to a community that gets excited about art, that supports and recognizes local artists and cultural institutions, and that understands that an investment in the arts is an act of enlightened self interest. We believe that the arts and a critical dialogue on the arts are integral to a healthy community.
