“We live in the midst of man-made objects, among tools, in houses,
streets, cities, and most of the time we see them only through the human
actions which put them to use. We become used to thinking that all of this
exists necessarily and unshakeably.”
- Cézanne’s Doubt, Maurice Merleau-Ponty 1945.

‘afternoons in the karmaforest’ are painted works on plywood that bear witness to afternoons spent propped against rocks and a few roots. Dumbfounded with questions and yearnings to know the ‘where’ of ‘here’, I marked time in a forest through fleeting observations and strokes of colour. And in this effort to be ‘here’, I inevitably considered the causes and conditions of being that ground us all.
