The Niagara Crystal Beach Comets made hockey history, defeating all comers at the Exclaim Hockey Summit of the Arts held at York University and DeLasalle College this April in Toronto. The Comets are Niagara’s only artist hockey team and include NAC members Jay Peters, Ryan Rivando, and John Venditti. NAC is also the official sponsor of Glenn ‘The Gooch' Gauthier’, the Comets' spiritual leader and the league’s most recognizable celebrity.

On their way to the cup, the Comets went 5-0, steamrolling over teams from across the country, including the Sudbury Saved by Vinyls, CCCP, and George Stroumboulopoulos’ Chart Attack Hack. In the championship final, the Comets came from behind to defeat the Halifax-Dartmouth Ferries, starring Chris Murphy of Sloan fame.

After retiring from the Standard, I searched countless photos and old black and white negatives boxes to put together a collection of images taken over the years.
